Grammar Explanation: Ima-ji-fun/pun desu โ€” To express time, use -ji (oโ€™clock) and -fun/-pun (minutes).
-fun is used after 2, 5, 7, 9; -pun is used after 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10. 1, 6, 8, 10 are read ippun, roppun, happun, juppun.

Ima nan-ji desu ka. โ†’ What time is it now?

Hachi-ji juppun desu. โ†’ Itโ€™s eight ten.

Nyลซyลku wa ima nan-ji desu ka. โ†’ In New York, what time is it now?

Gozen go-ji desu. โ†’ Itโ€™s 5 a.m.

Vโ€“masu โ€” A verb with masu works as a predicate and makes the sentence polite.

Watashi wa mainichi benkyล-shimasu. โ†’ I study every day.

Vโ€“masu / Vโ€“masen / Vโ€“mashita / Vโ€“masendeshita โ€” Used to express habitual, future, or past actions.

Maiasa roku-ji ni okimasu. โ†’ I wake up at six every morning.

Kinล benkyล-shimashita ka? โ†’ Did you study yesterday?

Hai, benkyล-shimashita. โ†’ Yes, I did.

N(time) ni V โ€” When a verb denotes a momentary action, ni marks the time.

Go-ji han ni okimasu. โ†’ I get up at five thirty.

N1 kara N2 made โ€” kara = from; made = until.

Ku-ji kara go-ji made hatarakimasu. โ†’ I work from nine to five.

ลŒsaka kara Tลkyล made san-jikan kakarimasu. โ†’ It takes three hours from Osaka to Tokyo.

N1 to N2 โ€” Connects two nouns in coordinate relation.

Ginkล no yasumi wa doyลbi to nichiyลbi desu. โ†’ The bank is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Sentence Ending: ne โ€” Ne adds feeling, sympathy, or agreement.

Mainichi jลซ-ji made benkyล-shimasu. Taihen desu ne. โ†’ I study until 10 p.m. That must be hard.
